One of the major reasons I like my patients to eat organic is to prevent the colonization of resistant bacteria. Unfortunately, current animal husbandry allows the use of antibiotics in the feed. This promotes antibiotic resistance in humans. As this resistance builds up through the continued consumption of industry meat and dairy, antibiotics become ineffectual in treating some illnesses. Simply put, people get sick and the antibiotics don’t work. It makes mores sense to pay a little more for organic and simply eat a little less. Opting for vegetarian or vegan meals during the week will cut down on your grocery bill as well, allowing for the extra money to be spent on organic meats and dairy, sparingly.
